1958 BMW 501-8

Debuting at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 501 was BMW’s first post-war car produced in Bavaria. Nicknamed “barockengel” (baroque angel) for its curved styling, it initially featured a 2.0-liter inline-six engine producing 64 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The model came in sedan, cabriolet, and coupe variants.

Through its production run, the 501 underwent several updates, including the 501a with a more powerful engine and lower price, the stripped-down 501b, and the 501/3 with a larger inline-six. The final iteration, the 501-8, featured a 2.6-liter V-8 engine shared with the luxury model 502.
