Designed by Vittorio Jano, the 6C 2300 debuted at the 1934 Milan Show as the latest development in a line of six-cylinder sporting Alfas stretching back to 1925. Two versions were offered: a long-wheelbase Turismo and a shorter Gran Turismo, with coachwork ranging from saloons to open spiders.

The 2,309cc DOHC inline-six featured an integrally cast crankcase and cylinder block with an aluminum-alloy head, producing 119bhp at 4,500rpm through a pair of Solex carburetors.

The model made an immediate mark in competition. At the 1934 Targa Abruzzo 24 Ore di Pescara, three Touring-bodied coupes finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd outright. Alfa Romeo responded by building 60 Gran Turismo “Pescara” cars to racing mechanical specification, a direct predecessor to the 6C 2300B Mille Miglia models that followed in 1937.
