1956 Talbot-Lago 2500 Sport Coupe
As the final production model from one of France’s most celebrated marques, this rare coupe represented both an ending and an ambitious last attempt at automotive greatness. The 2500 Sport Coupe, introduced in May 1955, featured a newly developed 2,491cc twin-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine producing 120 horsepower with twin Zenith carburetors.
Only 54 examples were ever built, making it exceptionally rare among European sports cars. An even more exclusive “Sport Spécial” variant offered aluminum doors, hood, and trunk lid, Borrani wheels, and high-lift camshafts, with just seven or eight examples produced.
Despite its advanced engineering and striking Facel-Métallon bodywork, the model proved difficult to sell due to its high price (reportedly twice that of a Jaguar XK140) and the engine’s reputation for fragility. Financial difficulties ultimately forced Talbot-Lago’s sale to Simca in 1959.
