1962 Cisitalia-Abarth Spyder
Rare Italian sports cars emerged from unlikely collaborations, and the 1962 Cisitalia-Abarth Spyder represents one of automotive history’s most intriguing partnerships.
Originally introduced at the 1959 Geneva Motor Show as the Abarth Riviera Spyder, this model featured coachwork designed by Giovanni Michelotti and built by Carrozzeria Allemano in Turin.
After Abarth sold a small number of Spyders, the remaining chassis were sent to Piero Dusio in Argentina, where they were finished and sold under the Cisitalia name until 1962.
The distinctive bodywork included open headlights with stone guards, a rear decklid scoop flanked by louvers, and a black convertible top.
Power came from an 847cc OHV inline-four engine with a Weber carburetor, mounted in the rear and paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. The chassis featured four-wheel independent suspension, with disc brakes up front and drums at the rear.
These Fiat-based machines combined Italian styling with Abarth’s racing expertise, creating an affordable alternative to more expensive European sports cars.
