1972 Fiat Dino Coupé 2400

Ferrari’s need to homologate a 2.0-liter V6 for Formula 2 competition in the mid-1960s set the stage for one of the more interesting production cars of the decade. To meet the 500-engine minimum requirement, Ferrari partnered with Fiat, giving both manufacturers a road car carrying the Dino name.

The coupé body, introduced in 1967 and penned by Bertone, is the more visually striking of the two body styles Fiat offered, low, well proportioned, and seating four in a 2+2 layout. Disc brakes at all four corners, independent front suspension, and a five-speed gearbox were standard from the outset.

In 1969, the original 2.0-liter unit gave way to a 2.4-liter V6 mated to a ZF five-speed gearbox, and independent rear suspension replaced the earlier live rear axle at the same time.

Output was rated at 180 hp, and the engine carries the characteristic Ferrari V6 character across the rev range.

Total production of the 2400 Coupé came to around 2,400 units.
