1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II H.J. Mulliner Drophead Sedanca Coupe

British engineering excellence defined this luxury motorcar from Derby, featuring an elegant drophead sedanca coupe body crafted by the renowned H.J. Mulliner coachworks.

The three-position convertible design allowed for multiple configurations, with the characteristic close-coupled proportions that positioned the body well ahead of the rear axle for improved passenger comfort.

H.J. Mulliner’s distinctive coachwork featured flowing lines and sophisticated styling details that complemented the Phantom II’s inherently graceful proportions. The long hood accounted for nearly half the vehicle’s overall length, creating the classic 1930s profile that collectors prize today.

Power came from Rolls-Royce’s refined 468 cubic inch straight-six engine with overhead valves and a crossflow cylinder head design. This 7.7-liter powerplant produced approximately 120 horsepower and was paired with a four-speed manual transmission (the Phantom II being the first Rolls-Royce where the engine and gearbox were mounted as a single unit).

Production spanned from 1929 to 1936, with only 1,681 Phantom II chassis built across all body styles and configurations. This purple on purple combination is one of only 129 left-hand drive Phantom IIs sold in the US.
