1936 Delahaye Type 135 Competition Court

French coachbuilder Joseph Figoni created one of the most beautiful automotive designs of the 1930s with his teardrop coupe bodywork for the Delahaye Type 135 Competition Court.

Built in 1936, only six examples were produced by Figoni et Falaschi on the short 104-inch (2.65 m) Type 135 chassis.

The flowing, curvaceous bodywork featured signature Figoni elements including a central tail fin, twin rear windows, and rear wheel spats complemented by small vestigial fins on the rear fenders.

A pronounced molding flowed from the hood through the doors to finish over the rear fender. Some examples incorporated headlamps faired into the front fenders, an advanced styling feature for the period.

This homologation special combined competition engineering with artistic design. The chassis utilized components from both the series production Type 135 and special racing variants, featuring a competition four-speed manual transmission, outside-mounted rear springs, and a racing-style fuel tank with dual fillers. An oil cooler mounted below the radiator helped manage temperatures during spirited driving.

The Competition Court represented an exclusive “under the counter” offering available only to select clientele with factory connections.
