1972 Volvo P1800E
Fame arrived for Volvo’s elegant sports coupe through Roger Moore’s character in “The Saint” television series, making this Swedish grand tourer an international icon.
The P1800’s distinctive styling came from Pelle Petterson working under Pietro Frua’s guidance at Ghia, creating flowing lines that perfectly balanced elegance with sportiness.
For 1972, this would be the final year for the coupe configuration before Volvo ended P1800E production in June.
Under the hood sat a 2.0-liter B20F four-cylinder engine with Bosch fuel injection, producing approximately 125 horsepower. The “F” designation indicated a lower compression ratio designed to meet stricter U.S. emissions standards.
With total P1800 production ending in 1973 at 47,492 units, these Swedish sports cars remain relatively rare today.
