1967 Chevrolet Yenko Super Camaro 450
Drag racing legend Don Yenko partnered with performance specialist Dick Harrell to create one of America’s most formidable muscle cars when General Motors refused to install engines larger than 400 cubic inches in the new Camaro.
The 1967 Yenko Super Camaro 450 began life as a factory SS equipped with a 396 CI engine, which was then replaced with the Corvette’s L72 427 CI big-block rated at 425 horsepower, though Yenko advertised 450 horsepower with Harrell’s tuning expertise.
Only 54 examples were built in 1967. The conversions featured a distinctive fiberglass “Stinger” hood inspired by the 1967 Corvette, Stewart-Warner gauges, and M21 close-ratio four-speed transmissions backed by 12-bolt Positraction rear ends.
Unlike later flashy muscle cars, these maintained understated exteriors with subtle “427” badges. Approximately 10 are known to survive today, and quality examples command values exceeding $300,000.
