1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS โ€˜Chairs & Flaresโ€™

Named for Enzo Ferrari’s beloved son who tragically died at just 24, this mid-engine masterpiece represented Ferrari’s answer to Porsche’s growing sports car dominance.

The Dino 246 GTS combined stunning Pininfarina design with coachwork by Scaglietti, featuring a 2.4-liter dual-overhead-cam aluminum V-6 engine that produced approximately 195 horsepower, mounted behind the driver for optimal weight distribution and handling precision.

The “Chairs & Flares” designation refers to two highly desirable factory options: Daytona-style seats and distinctive flared fenders that gave the car an even more aggressive stance. Research indicates fewer than 150 GTS examples received both options, making these among the rarest and most coveted Dino variants.

Introduced in 1969 as an evolution of the original 206 GT, the 246 featured increased displacement and steel body construction while retaining the stunning Leonardo Fioravanti design. The GTS variant, introduced in 1972, added a removable targa roof panel, combining open-air motoring with the car’s legendary handling dynamics.

With its five-speed transaxle and perfectly balanced chassis, the 246 GTS delivered the razor-sharp road manners that made it an instant classic among driving enthusiasts.
