Owls don’t sunbathe just for fun — it’s actually essential to their survival.

Why do owls sunbathe?

Warm up their bodies: After a cold night of hunting, sunlight helps them regain heat quickly.

Kill parasites: Heat and UV light help reduce mites, lice, and bacteria in their feathers.

Feather maintenance: Sunlight keeps feathers dry, fluffy, and in good condition for insulation and flight.

Vitamin D production: Helps support strong bones and overall health.

Rest and recharge: Standing still in the sun lets them recover energy after a long night.

You might see an owl spreading its wings, eyes half-closed — it can look strange, but it’s actually the perfect position to absorb warmth ☀️

Looks weird at first… but it’s basically their version of recharging.
