1940 Ford Deluxe Sedan Delivery Custom
Ford’s redesigned Sedan Delivery for 1940 represented a significant styling advancement, featuring a longer and wider cargo area with single rear door access.
The handsome front end borrowed design elements from the Deluxe passenger car line, creating what many consider the most attractive Sedan Delivery of the era. Ford built 5,531 Sedan Deliveries that year, with a base price of about $700.
This custom interpretation transforms the practical commercial vehicle into a sophisticated street rod. Deep blue paintwork covers the streamlined body, while period chrome trim and aftermarket billet wheels update the classic proportions. The interior receives modern upgrades including plush velour cabin materials and leather seating surfaces.
Performance modifications center around a 289 cubic inch Ford V8 engine equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor, replacing the original flathead V8 powerplant. Polished Cobra valve covers and air cleaner provide visual appeal, while chrome-finished alternator and air conditioning compressor add both function and style to the engine bay.
Upgraded front disc brakes handle the increased performance capabilities. The combination of classic 1940s styling with modern reliability creates an appealing package for both street rod enthusiasts and those seeking vintage commercial vehicle charm with contemporary drivability.
