1954 Buick Roadmaster Convertible
Buick reached the top four American automakers by market share in 1954, with the Roadmaster Convertible representing the brand’s luxury flagship.
The redesigned body featured a new vertical-bar grille, wraparound windshield, and re-sculpted sides that created a trimmer appearance compared to the more rounded 1953 styling. Open front wheel wells and a sweeping side spear trim echoed the previous year’s exclusive Skylark design.
Visual cues identified this as Buick’s premium model, including four ventiports on the front fenders and “Roadmaster” script on the rear quarters. The distinctive styling changes marked a significant departure from earlier designs.
Power came from Buick’s 322 cubic inch “Fireball” V8, producing 200 horsepower at 4,100 RPM with an 8.5:1 compression ratio and a 4-barrel carburetor. The engine was paired with Buick’s Dynaflow automatic transmission.
Only 3,305 Roadmaster Convertibles were produced in 1954 at a factory price of $3,521, making these cars quite rare today. Standard equipment included power steering, power brakes, power windows, and a power convertible top, representing the height of 1950s American automotive luxury.
