The Italia Spyder’s hand-formed steel bodywork featured a long, low hood line and a chopped rear deck, clearly inspired by contemporary Ferrari and Maserati designs.
Built on a tubular steel chassis, the car’s exotic appearance concealed its practical Ford 351 V-8 engine, which delivered impressive performance with 0-60 mph acceleration in just 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
This marriage of Old World craftsmanship and New World engineering created a unique proposition in the supercar market. The high price tag reflected its hand-built nature and exclusive appeal, attracting buyers who wanted something different from the usual Italian exotics.
