This duck can shimmer with metallic green and purple like oil on water.
Originating in North America, the Cayuga Duck is famous for its deep black plumage that glows with iridescent shades under sunlight. From certain angles, its feathers flash emerald green, violet, and blue, giving the bird an almost unreal appearance.
Despite its elegant look, it is a calm and hardy domestic duck, often seen foraging for insects, grasses, and small aquatic life around ponds and farmyards. Some Cayuga ducks even lay eggs that begin nearly black before fading to lighter shades later in the season.
