This pheasant survives in freezing mountain air where snow covers the ground for months.
High on the cold alpine slopes of western China and eastern Tibet, the White Eared-Pheasant moves through pine forests and rocky valleys in small, social groups. Its pale plumage, long white tail, and vivid red facial skin stand out sharply against snow and dark evergreen trees.
Unlike many shy pheasants, this species is surprisingly bold and cooperative, often foraging together for roots, berries, seeds, and moss hidden beneath the snow. Its thick feathers help protect it from the brutal cold of high-altitude winters.
A ghostly traveler of the snowy mountains, yet a resilient survivor of the Himalayan wilderness.
