1958 Mercedes-Benz 220 S Cabriolet
The Mercedes-Benz 220 (W180), launched in 1954, was part of the “Ponton” series, named for its modern, integrated-fender design. These were Mercedes’ first unit-body (unibody) cars, helping rebuild the company’s post-war reputation.
The 220A sedan offered a 2.2-liter inline-six engine and spacious interior. In 1956, the 220S replaced it, adding twin carburetors for more power, a one-piece front bumper, and additional chrome trim. While over 9,100 sedans were built in 1959 alone, the later-introduced coupe and cabriolet variants were much rarer, with combined production under 3,500 units across four years.
