1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special
Cadillac’s 1958 Fleetwood Sixty Special was more than just transportation. It was a statement of success in an era defined by prosperity and style. The 1958 model year was the last time the Sixty Special script appeared on the car itself, marking the end of an era for this distinguished nameplate.
Available only as a four-door hardtop, the defining feature was the broad, ribbed stainless steel trim along the flanks, along with matching fender skirts. The 133-inch wheelbase provided exceptional passenger space, while the 225-inch overall length commanded attention on any street.
Power came from Cadillac’s 365 CI V8 producing 310 horsepower (335 horsepower with optional triple two-barrel carburetors), paired with the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Sparkling “studs” decorated the wide new grille, while the rubber-tipped bumper guards were moved further out toward the edges of the car for a lower, wider appearance.
At $6,230, this was premium transportation that cost more than twice the price of a basic Chevrolet. Only 12,900 examples were produced, making it an exclusive symbol of American prosperity.
