1948 MG TC Special Roadster

Arriving in America shortly after World War II, the MG TC helped ignite the postwar sports car movement in the United States. This particular example, however, is far from a standard production TC. It has been extensively modified and restored as a tribute to the 1933 MG K3 Mille Miglia race car.

Built on a 1948 MG TC chassis, it features a handcrafted all-aluminum body inspired by the rare MG Q-Type, complete with a boattail rear section, cycle-style fenders, and dual aero windscreens. The car’s detailing includes Brooklands-style trim, K3 Magnette–type seats, and refurbished Lucas headlamps with stone guards, all evoking the spirit of MG’s 1930s competition machines.

Under the hood sits a supercharged 1,250cc MG XPAG inline-four, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission (upgrades that give this TC-based special far more performance than the original’s 54 horsepower and 4-speed gearbox).

While the original MG TC was known for its slab fuel tank and rear-mounted spare wheel, this custom “Special Roadster” adopts a boattail design that pays homage to MG’s prewar racing heritage. It’s a striking blend of period inspiration and modern craftsmanship, celebrating both the legacy of the MG marque and the creativity of postwar sports car enthusiasts.
