1957 Jaguar XK140 MC Roadster
Rack-and-pinion steering and telescopic shock absorbers distinguished the XK140 as a significant evolution from its XK120 predecessor when production began in 1954. The roadster featured a lightweight canvas top that folded completely out of sight behind the seats, creating a clean rear profile.
Engineering improvements included moving the engine three inches forward to increase interior space, plus enhanced brakes and increased suspension travel.
The standard 3.4-liter inline-six produced 190 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. The MC package (known as SE in Britain) added a C-Type cylinder head, 2-inch sand-cast H8 carburetors, heavier torsion bars, and dual exhaust pipes, boosting output to 210 horsepower.
Period tests recorded 0-60 mph acceleration in about 8.4 seconds and a top speed of just over 120 mph.
A total of 8,937 XK140s were built between 1954 and 1957, including roadsters, fixed-head coupes, and drophead coupes. The XK140 was produced in smaller numbers than its XK120 predecessor and remains highly prized today, especially in MC specification.
