1977 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
1977 marked Cadillac’s 75th Anniversary and the introduction of downsized DeVille models, responding to the oil crisis and shifting away from the early 1970s’ larger luxury cars. The new DeVilles were 9 inches shorter, 4 inches narrower, and half a ton lighter than their predecessors, yet offered more interior space and trunk room.
The redesign featured a higher roofline, new suspension, chassis, and integrated styling. These were the first DeVilles without rear wheel spats. Under the hood, the 500 cubic-inch V8 was replaced by a 425 cubic-inch version producing 180 horsepower.
