1958 Fiat-Abarth 750 GT ‘Dubble Bubble’ (by Zagato)
Abarth modified Fiat 600s into the 750 GT in 1956, boring out the engine to 747cc and boosting power to almost 40hp (good for an 80+ mph top speed). When Carrozzeria Zagato in Milan began producing the coupé bodies, he encountered a design challenge: his sleek, low-roof sketches left insufficient headroom. Their solution was to add twin bulges to the roof contour.
This distinctive feature earned the nickname “Double Bubble,” which became a signature element of Zagato’s sporting coupés. The Double Bubble design has remained influential in Zagato’s work through the present day, demonstrating how a practical solution to a headroom problem created one of automotive design’s most enduring style elements.
