1959 MGA Roadster
This 1959 MGA Roadster captures the spirit of British sports car design during one of the marque’s most celebrated periods. The model’s flowing bodywork and low-slung profile made it instantly recognizable, departing from the upright MG T-series with a more modern, aerodynamic appearance.
Chrome bumpers, wire wheels, and a fold-down windshield completed the classic open-top aesthetic that came to define postwar British motoring.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter (1,489cc) inline-four engine equipped with twin SU H4 carburetors, producing about 72 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. The combination provided lively performance for the era, with a top speed of around 95 mph and 0-60 mph acceleration in roughly 15 seconds.
The car’s precise rack-and-pinion steering and low seating position gave drivers a genuine sports car feel while maintaining the dependability for which MG was known throughout the 1950s.
The MGA became one of MG’s most successful models, with over 101,000 built between 1955 and 1962, including both 1500 and later 1600 and Twin Cam variants. Its blend of attractive styling, accessible performance, and affordable pricing made it especially popular in the United States, where the majority of production was exported. The roadster body style remained the most sought-after configuration throughout the production run.
