When I got back to my apartment complex after work in the evening, a neighbor told me that a resident had thrown their kittens outside. Apparently, the family’s child wasn’t allowed to keep them, so they had no choice but to leave the cats in the complex. The owner posted a message in the community group, hoping someone would adopt them.
As soon as I heard about it, I hurried home to grab a flashlight. It was already dark, and the temperature had dropped—I was really worried the kittens would be in danger if they stayed outside too long.
I searched around the complex for over an hour. Just as I was starting to think maybe someone else had taken them in, I heard faint meowing. I followed the sound and found several kittens huddled together in a patch of grass. They were clearly shivering from the cold.
I hadn’t brought a cat carrier in my rush, and I was afraid the kittens might run off. So I took off my jacket, gently wrapped them up in it, and carried them together. The kittens were surprisingly calm and didn’t resist—almost as if they knew I was there to help.
Trembling, whether from the cold or fear, they meowed softly at me, almost like they were saying thank you.
I’m just glad I found them in time. Maybe this is the start of a special bond.
