This colorful parrot makes its home in one of the most unusual nesting sites imaginable.
The Hooded Parrot is native to northern Australia, where it inhabits open woodlands and tropical savannas. Unlike most parrots, it often nests in active termite mounds, which provide a stable temperature and protection for its eggs and chicks. Feeding on seeds, grasses, fruits, and blossoms, it spends much of its day foraging on the ground in pairs or small groups.
A clever survivor of the Australian outback, proving that the safest home can sometimes be built by someone else.
