This bird looks like a tiny flame glowing among the green leaves of the Atlantic Forest.
The Red-crested Cotinga is a striking and elusive bird found in the forests of southeastern Brazil. The male is especially spectacular, with a brilliant red-orange head and crest contrasting against its pale body, while the female is much more subtly colored. It spends much of its time high in the canopy, feeding mainly on fruits and helping disperse seeds throughout its forest home.
A rare flash of crimson in the treetops, proving that some of nature’s most beautiful birds are also the hardest to find.
