This beautiful parrot was once considered one of Australia’s most spectacular grassland birds.
The Paradise Parrot was a small, brilliantly colored parrot native to southeastern Queensland. The male had a vivid red-and-orange face, blue crown, green body, and striking yellow markings, creating an almost unreal combination of colors. Sadly, the species is now considered extinct, with the last confirmed sighting dating to the early 1920s.
A lost jewel of Australia’s grasslands, reminding us that even the most beautiful creatures can disappear when their habitat is gone.
