This tiny bird looks like it’s wearing a crown painted in the deepest shades of violet and blue. The Purple-crowned Fairywren is a small Australian songbird found along tropical rivers and dense vegetation in northern Australia. The male is especially striking during the breeding season, with a brilliant purple crown contrasting against his dark body. These social birds live in family groups and spend much of their time moving through thick grasses and shrubs, searching for insects and other tiny creatures.
