1959 Imperial Crown Convertible
With only 555 convertibles produced for the model year, the Crown Convertible represented Imperial’s mid-range offering between the Custom and top-tier LeBaron. The dramatic styling featured soaring tail fins and Virgil Exner’s “Forward Look” design in its final iteration, making 1959 the last year for this distinctive aesthetic direction that had launched in 1957.
New technology for 1959 included dual front swivel seats that rotated outward for easier entry and exit, plus an automatic headlight dimmer and an auto-dimming rearview mirror designed to reduce glare from oncoming traffic. Factory air conditioning was available as an option, and the convertible came well equipped with power accessories
Power came from Imperial’s newly introduced 413 cubic inch V8 generating 350 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, paired with the push-button TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The torsion-bar Torsion-Aire suspension delivered exceptional ride quality and was a hallmark of Chrysler Corporation engineering during this era.
