1954 Morris Minor 1000 Split Screen (Series II)

The Series II arrived in 1952 following the merger of Morris and Austin into the British Motor Corporation. This revision introduced Austin’s overhead‑valve A‑series engine while retaining the distinctive split windscreen that characterized early Morris Minors.

The four‑door saloon body provided practical family transportation with improved visibility compared to two‑door variants.​

Power came from an 803cc four‑cylinder engine producing about 30 horsepower at 4,800 rpm. While the overhead‑valve design represented a technical advancement over the earlier sidevalve MM, performance remained modest with a top speed near 62 mph. The gearbox ratios drew criticism for being poorly matched to the engine’s characteristics.​

Morris updated the Series II in 1954 with a revised dashboard, new grille, and updated lighting. The model remained in production until 1956, when the Minor 1000 replaced it with a larger 948cc engine and a curved one‑piece windscreen.

Today, split‑screen Series II examples have become increasingly sought after by collectors who value their period charm and historical significance.
