1958 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe Deville
Pillarless hardtop construction distinguished Cadillac’s luxurious two-door Coupe DeVille from base Series 62 sedans, identified by solid metal trim on the lower conical projectile flares.
The 222-inch overall length rode on a 129.5-inch wheelbase, with dual headlamps flanking a wider grille featuring round cleats at horizontal and vertical intersections.
Chrome detailing covered virtually every exterior surface, complemented by prominent tailfins bearing Cadillac script lettering.
Power came from the 365 cubic inch overhead-valve V-8 producing 310 horsepower, transmitted through a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Standard equipment included power steering and power brakes, with optional power windows, power front seat, and factory air conditioning available.
The wraparound windshield provided panoramic forward visibility while the absence of a B-pillar allowed all side glass to retract fully, defining the luxury hardtop profile.
Production totaled 18,414 Coupe DeVille examples for 1958, making it among Cadillac’s most popular body styles despite recession-era economic conditions that suppressed luxury car sales across the industry.
The model represented Harley Earl’s styling philosophy at its most flamboyant, with chrome-intensive ornamentation and sculpted bodywork defining American automotive excess.
