1927 Sunbeam 16hp Saloon

Distinctive styling set this British saloon apart from its contemporaries, featuring a pronounced V-windscreen and low roofline that created a rakish, sporting appearance.

The 16hp model, introduced by Sunbeam in 1926, represented the company’s success during a period when they were claiming Grand Prix victories and setting land speed records.

The coachwork, produced by Carbodies, housed a 2,035cc overhead valve straight-six engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission. This combination enabled the 4/5-seater to exceed 65 mph, with actual top speed varying based on bodywork configuration.

Period automotive publications praised the model’s handling characteristics and four-wheel drum braking system. These performance attributes made the 16hp a capable touring car that balanced comfort with engaging driving dynamics, reflecting Sunbeam’s motorsport expertise in a road-going package.
