1976 Volkswagen Type 2 Motorhome

Volkswagen’s T2-generation Type 2 has always carried strong associations with road travel and outdoor living, making it a natural candidate for motorhome conversion.

This 1976 Australian-market example takes that concept further than most, with a full four-berth camper build that pairs period style with a more capable modern drivetrain.

The two-tone blue and white exterior, white-painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, and whitewall tires reinforce the vintage aesthetic. Inside, tan leatherette upholstery, white cabinetry, wood countertops, and wood-effect flooring give the rear cabin a tidy, purpose-built feel.

Amenities include air conditioning, a microwave, refrigerator, fold-down dining table, television, rollout awning, indoor and outdoor showers with hot water capability, and a backup camera. Sleeping space for four is provided by two double beds.

The original air-cooled Volkswagen engine has been replaced by a Subaru EJ25 2.5-liter flat-four, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission, a widely used and well-regarded conversion that improves drivability and power while preserving the rear-engine layout.

The vehicle measures 16 feet in length and approximately 10 feet in height.
