1947 Ford V8 Super Deluxe Sportsman ‘Woodie’ Convertible

Ford’s decision to apply woodie styling to a two-door convertible body produced one of the most distinctive American cars of the immediate postwar period.
Henry Ford II commissioned the Sportsman using the company’s woodworking expertise from its Iron Mountain factory in Michigan, where craftsmen worked mahogany and ash to construct the body panels. The style was available only on the top-spec Super Deluxe chassis.
Under the hood sat a 239ci OHV V8 producing 100bhp at 3,600rpm through a single Holley carburetor. A 3-speed manual with overdrive and a 2-speed Columbia rear axle gave drivers good flexibility. Four-wheel drum brakes and leaf spring suspension front and rear completed the mechanical package.
