1976 TVR 2500M Coupe

TVR’s M series replaced the earlier Vixen and Tuscan models, featuring a front mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout with body-on-frame construction. The distinctive bodies were crafted from glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) mounted on a multi-tubular steel chassis. The suspension was fully independent front and rear with double wishbones, providing nimble handling characteristics.

The 2500M became TVR’s best-selling model at that time, with 947 units produced between 1972 and 1977. American exports accounted for 80% of production until manufacturing ended when the supply of TR6 engines was discontinued. While not the quickest sports car available, its low weight, short wheelbase, and precise handling made it an engaging drive with outstanding road holding.

Racing from 0-60 mph in 9.3 seconds, the 1976 TVR 2500M packed a punchy 2.5-liter Triumph-sourced inline six-cylinder engine. This British sports car was designed with twin Stromberg carburetors producing 106 horsepower at 4,900 rpm and 133 ft/lbs of torque at 3,000 rpm, allowing it to reach a top speed of 109 mph.

Many mechanical components came from other manufacturers to keep maintenance costs reasonable – brakes and other parts were sourced from the Triumph TR6, with 11-inch discs up front and 9-inch drums at the rear. The car’s distinctive fastback styling, with its large rear glass canopy, gives excellent visibility despite the compact cockpit dimensions.
