This bird can remain in the air for astonishing lengths of time — sometimes months without landing. It feeds on insects caught mid-flight, drinks by skimming water surfaces, and even rests one half of its brain at a time, allowing it to sleep while gliding through open skies. Some species can even mate in flight, turning the sky itself into both home and refuge. What makes it extraordinary is this near-total independence from the ground — a life lived almost entirely on the wing, following shifting winds and endless horizons.
