1955 Alfa Romeo 1900 C SS Berlinetta
Racing success at the 1955 Mille Miglia established the reputation of Zagato’s lightweight interpretation of Alfa Romeo’s competition platform. Only 39 Berlinettas were built by Zagato on the 1900 C SS chassis, making these aluminum-bodied machines exceptionally rare among Italian sports cars.
The sculpted bodywork featured aerodynamic efficiency with Plexiglas windows, mounted on a 98-inch wheelbase. Later examples (like this one) received Zagato’s signature double bubble roof treatment, while early models originally featured standard rooflines.
Power came from a 1,975cc dual-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine producing approximately 115 horsepower, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The chassis featured independent front suspension with double wishbones and Alfin four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, providing competition-ready dynamics.
The 1900 was Alfa Romeo’s first production car with unibody construction, creating an ideal foundation for coachbuilder interpretations.
