1967 Shelby GT500

Ford’s introduction of big-block engine capability to the 1967 Mustang platform created the perfect opportunity for Carroll Shelby to unleash his most powerful pony car yet.

The GT500 featured a 428 cubic inch Police Interceptor V8 with dual four-barrel carburetors, producing a conservative factory rating of 355 horsepower, though actual output approached 400 horsepower with 420 pound-feet of torque.

Distinctive styling cues separated the GT500 from standard Mustangs, including an aggressive front end with unique hood scoop, grille-mounted driving lights, rear quarter scoops, and a rear spoiler. Side coves ahead of the rear wheels received additional air scoops, while a roll bar with inertia-reel shoulder harnesses added competition character.

This particular Dark Moss Green example represents extraordinary rarity among 1967 GT500s. Only 43 cars were built that year with both a four-speed manual transmission and factory air conditioning, with just six finished in this color combination.
