This bird looks like a tiny flying jewel dipped in velvet and sunlight.
In the humid forests of Costa Rica and western Panama, the Snowcap flashes through the understory with brilliant bursts of purple and white. The maleβs glowing violet body and pure white crown make it one of the most striking hummingbirds in the tropics.
It feeds on nectar from small forest flowers, hovering with incredible precision while its wings beat too fast for the eye to follow. As it moves from bloom to bloom, it quietly pollinates the rainforest, helping countless plants continue their life cycle.
A spark of color beneath the canopy, yet a vital messenger between the flowers.
