Heroic K-9 Faust Retires After 8 Years of Service, Shares Emotional Goodbye With His Handler

Faust, a devoted German Shepherd, served as an Explosives Detection and Patrol dog for the BNSF Railway Police Force in Texas.

Over eight years, this courageous canine showed outstanding skill in protecting communities alongside his handler, Senior Special Agent Bryan Schaffer.

Faust’s unwavering dedication to his duty earned him the honor of a touching farewell as he stepped into his well-deserved retirement.

On his last day, K-9 Faust took his final ride in his patrol vehicle with his trusted handler.

A Tearful Goodbye

Unaware of the surprise awaiting him, Faust was about to experience a deeply emotional moment—a final radio call marking the end of his incredible career.

March 3, 2017, marked the end of Faust’s service with the Fort Worth police. Additionally, the tradition for all retiring officers, Faust’s final radio call, was a tribute to his eight years and one day of dedicated service.

A video shared on the BNSF Railway’s YouTube channel captures the poignant moment. In the video, Faust and Agent Schaffer sit together in their squad car. The dispatcher delivers the final call:

“K-9 partner Faust just completed his last shift after serving as an Explosives detection and police service canine for eight years and one day, and he is now officially retired. Faust, thank you for your service to the BNSF Railway, the communities you’ve served, and most importantly, for serving and protecting your handler. Now, we wish you a well, healthy, and happy retirement. Radio clear.”

By the end of the call, Faust whimpers, reflecting his close bond with his handler, who, overwhelmed with emotion, tenderly kisses Faust on the head.
