Rebuilding trust after being let down can be one of the most difficult things in life, can’t it? This small dog, Stella, and her savior, Niall, know this struggle all too well.

Stella had been wandering the streets, confused and afraid, with a rope cruelly fastened around her neck. She was lost and didn’t know what to do. But when Niall spotted her, he could see right away that this poor dog needed urgent help.

There was just one big hurdle: Stella was terrified and didn’t trust anyone!

Whenever a person approached, Stella bared her sharp teeth, warning them to stay away.

Her fear was palpable, but Niall was determined to help her.

Determined to Help

Niall tried everything he could think of, from speaking softly to approaching slowly, but Stella was not letting anyone get near her.

“She was in so much pain. The rope had cut deep into her neck, and she was so scared of us that she even tried to bite,” Niall shared with The Dodo.

After many attempts and a lot of patience, Niall finally managed to capture Stella safely. He put her in a carrier and rushed her to the vet for the urgent care she desperately needed.

The veterinary team quickly cut away the rope and began treating the wounds on her neck. While this brought Stella immediate relief, she still wasn’t ready to trust the people trying to help her.

She retreated to the far corner of her kennel, growling at anyone who came close.

“Touching her was out of the question,” Niall explained.

Fortunately, Stella was now in the hands of the most caring and persistent people who refused to give up on her.

Every day, they stood by her kennel, talking to her softly, offering her treats, and just sitting with her, hoping she would give them a chance.

Days turned into a week, and progress seemed slow, but then, Niall saw something amazing.

Stella stopped growling at him!

Encouraged by this small victory, Niall gently reached out to pet her. She hesitated but didn’t retreat immediately. Niall knew this was a breakthrough.

“It took us nearly a week to get this close. We spent countless hours just sitting with her, showing her that she could trust us,” Niall recounted.

Gradually, Stella began to open up. She started revealing the sweet, gentle nature hidden beneath her fear.

A New Beginning for Stella

After a few play sessions with other small dogs, Stella discovered that she enjoyed being around her furry friends.

She watched their every move, slowly mimicking them. Before long, she transformed into a playful, joyful pup, running across fields, playing games, and basking in the sun.

Seeing this incredible change in Stella brought immense joy and pride to Niall’s heart.

“Stella’s personality now is just beautiful. She adores getting attention from people,” he said.

Stella will continue to stay with Niall for a little while longer, learning to trust and love. When the time is right, she will move to a forever home where a loving family will teach her all about kindness, love, and joy.
