Beagle’s Joyful Reaction After Last-Minute Rescue From Euthanization Will Melt Your Heart

Not long ago, I came across a saying that described rescuing dogs as being 50% sad and 50% relief, and I couldn’t agree more.

When you first encounter abandoned or stray dogs, it breaks your heart to see how many of these little souls are suffering. You want nothing more than to help every single one of them.

The other side of this, however, is the immense relief when you know a rescued puppy is finally safe and has a promising future with a loving family.

These are the precious moments that every pet deserves. In this piece, we’ll share the story of one such rescue—how a compassionate man saved a dog from euthanasia and gave it a second chance.

A Beagle’s Journey to Happiness

In today’s world, it’s sadly common for many owners to surrender their pets to be euthanized because their medical costs become too burdensome to manage.

Gregory, a small Beagle, was almost a victim of this trend. He was days away from being put to sleep when a man named Joe Kirk stepped in to save him.

Joe rescued Gregory just two days before he was scheduled to be euthanized. This was nothing short of a miracle, as Joe and his wife, Schenley, run a non-profit organization called Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary, which is dedicated to saving neglected dogs and finding them new homes.

Based in Findlay, Ohio, this sanctuary focuses on giving older and unadoptable dogs a chance at a better life.

Schenley shared on Facebook: “Gregory is one thankful and appreciative Beagle! He KNOWS he is SAFE!

He is heartworm-positive and will be going through treatment, but he knows he is in good hands! We will get him healthy and provide him with all the love he so deserves and a wonderful future!”

Gregory’s Fresh Start

Once Gregory was safe and in the Kirks’ care, they immediately took him to a veterinarian for treatment of his heartworm disease.

After his treatment, they put him up for adoption, and Gregory didn’t have to wait long for his new beginning.

A family soon came forward, eager to welcome him into their home. Shortly after, Gregory found his forever family, where he now spends his days enjoying life with his new beagle sibling.

In a touching statement, Schenley expressed: We are often asked how many dogs we have saved. The answer that always comes to mind is we have saved one more. One more dog is safe and will receive all the love and respect that they deserve.

One more dog will be properly fed and get the veterinary care they need, one more dog will have a loving forever home. There is no better feeling, and nothing in life is more fulfilling.”

If there’s anything we can take away from this story, it’s that a little kindness can make a world of difference for dogs. There’s always something more we can do to help those in need, and stories like Gregory’s remind us just how impactful a single act of compassion can be.
