One quiet morning, a man woke to an impossible sight: a backpack lying on his floor, shifting and twitching as if it had a life of its own. His heart pounded as he crept downstairs, fear prickling his skin. He nudged the bag cautiously, then pulled the zipper open. Inside, blinking up at him with tired eyes, was a cat.

Stunned, the man whispered, “Did you fall from heaven?” The cat looked unharmed, but the bag reeked of something foul. Security footage from a neighbor soon revealed the truth: a shadowy figure had lingered near the gate for five minutes, then hurled the red backpack over. It lay there all night, abandoned in the dark, until the man brought it inside.

A Name That Changed Everything
Once indoors, the cat was wary. She tried to run, but her body was too weak, her energy drained. The man watched her, feeling a strange tug of familiarity. On a whim, he called out a name he hadn’t spoken in months: “Bean Bun.”
The cat froze. Then slowly, she turned. As if recognizing the sound, she rose and began to walk toward him, one hesitant step at a time.

The man remembered. He used to feed a stray cat named Bean Bun, a little creature he’d grown fond of. But one day, she vanished, and he never saw her again. Now, looking at this white cat who responded to that same name, a wild, tender thought crossed his mind: Could she have come back to him, in another form?
A Promise Made From the Heart
He didn’t know if reincarnation was real. He still doesn’t. But he gave the white cat a snack, cleaned her filthy ears, and fed her until she stopped trembling. And as she curled up in his hands, he made her a quiet promise: “You will never be thrown away like garbage again.”
