A Glimmer of Hope: Mochi’s Fight Against a Devastating Tumor

A Plea for Help in a Crowded Market

In the midst of a bustling market, a small black dog named Mochi was discovered. He was found during a routine feeding round by the dedicated team from Little Steps Matter. At first glance, Mochi appeared calm, but a closer look revealed a heartbreaking reality. His suffering was immense, hidden beneath a gentle demeanor.

The Weight of Suffering

A large, painful lump had grown beside Mochi’s right eye, completely closing it. The distress was evident, but it wasn’t the only challenge he faced. His nails were so long and curled that they had caused severe infections in his paws, making every movement agony. Despite the pain, Mochi remained gentle and trusting.

A Decision to Follow

The rescue team, moved by Mochi’s plight, decided to follow him. Their hope was to discover where he lived, perhaps finding someone who cared for him. The Difficult Rescue

Catching Mochi proved to be a challenge. He was understandably nervous, in pain, and unsure of the unfolding events. Yet, with patience and care, the team managed to safely place him into their transport van. He was then rushed to the emergency veterinary clinic, the first step towards a chance at a better life.

Diagnosis and Initial Treatment

At the clinic, Mochi was sedated for a thorough evaluation. The diagnosis revealed a mass on his upper jaw, identified as a transmissible venereal tumor (TVT). The vets also addressed his painful paw infections by trimming his severely overgrown nails. Despite these severe issues, blood tests showed Mochi was in surprisingly good overall health, offering a glimmer of hope for his recovery.

A Path to Healing

Mochi began his treatment with IV antibiotics and painkillers to manage his discomfort. He received his first round of chemotherapy, a crucial step in fighting the tumor. Now, he is being carefully monitored at the clinic, resting and healing in a safe, warm environment. His organs are functioning well, and his blood results have given the team immense hope for his recovery.

Hope for the Future

Mochi’s journey is far from over, but he is no longer alone. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the rescue team and veterinary staff, he is receiving the care he desperately needs. If his body responds well to treatment, he will continue with further chemotherapy sessions. After recovery, he will be vaccinated and neutered, ensuring a healthy and protected life.
