Enter Whitney Malin, an experienced animal rescuer from New Jersey who had seen her fair share of heartbreaking cases.
But even she was stunned by the pitiful sight in front of her. The cat, later named Garfield, was in excruciating pain.
His body was weak from infection. He had been suffering alone, waiting, whether he knew it or not, for someone to save him.
It wasn’t easy catching him. Terrified and struggling, Garfield resisted.
