The Stray Cat He Didn't Want Found a New Owner, and It Broke His Heart
He never wanted a cat. But the stray that kept appearing outside his home had other plans. When he first noticed her pregnancy earlier this year, he decided to keep his distance, offering only food and shelter from the elements. He thought that would be enough.
After she gave birth, he continued to feed her, watching from afar as she cared for her kittens. He told himself he wasn’t getting involved. But the cat saw things differently.

A Desperate Plea
One morning, she arrived carrying a tiny kitten in her mouth. As soon as she saw him, she ran over, meowing urgently. It was as if she was asking him to take the kitten, to carry it for her. But the man still didn’t want the responsibility.
She tried to show him how well behaved her kitten was, parading it around as if to prove it would be no trouble. Frustrated, he gently picked up the kitten and placed it back into the nest. She stared at him in disbelief, unable to understand why he was rejecting her offering.

That night, the weather turned. Rain began to fall, heavy and relentless. The man lay in bed, unable to shake the image of the mother and her kittens huddled in their flimsy nest. In the middle of the night, he made a decision. He got up, went outside, and brought them all into his home.
It was a turning point. He didn’t want to admit it, but he had started to care.

The Hardest Goodbye
Once the kittens were old enough, he found them loving homes. He let the mother cat go, assuming she would return to her independent life. But soon after, she vanished. Days turned into weeks with no sign of her.
Then one day, he saw her. She was being carried in the arms of another man, purring contentedly. She had snuck into a stranger’s house through an open window one night, curled up on his bed, and refused to leave.

The man was heartbroken. He had grown attached despite himself. But he also felt a strange sense of relief. The stranger had only one cat, while he already had many. He knew she would get the attention she deserved.
It was a bittersweet ending. He had never wanted a cat, but somehow, losing her felt like losing a piece of his heart.
