𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐫 𝐎𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 1957 Scootacar

The Scootacar Mk I is what it would look like if a British phone booth mated with a motorcycle. This peculiar creation came about when a director’s wife at the Hunslet Engine Company complained about parking her Jaguar, and somehow the solution was… this.

Designer Harry Brown created its distinctive shape by having someone trace his outline while he sat above the engine. The result was a tall, angelfish-like profile featuring a single door, handlebar controls, and motorcycle-style tandem seating. Despite looking like it would topple in a stiff breeze, its wide floor pan actually gave it surprisingly good handling.

Powered by a mighty 8.5 horsepower engine, the Scootacar had one unique distinction – it was the only car ever to wear a tiny picture of itself as its front badge. Only 1,500 were made, proving that sometimes the oddest ideas are the most memorable!
