1955 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn (more pics below 👇)
The Silver Dawn was the first Rolls-Royce offered with factory bodywork, a significant departure for a marque historically associated with coachbuilt bodies. The standard steel body, produced by Pressed Steel Company in Cowley, had first appeared on the Bentley Mk VI before the equivalent Rolls-Royce arrived in 1949.
A mid-1952 revision introduced on the “E” series brought an enlarged trunk along with updated rear bodywork, carried through to the final “J” series. Under the hood sat a 4.6L F-head inline-six rated at approximately 130 hp, paired with a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic.
Independent coil spring front suspension and hydraulic drum brakes rounded out the specification (power assistance was introduced later in production).
