1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series 2
When Aston Martin debuted this grand tourer at the 1958 London Motor Show, it announced the British marque’s dramatic entry into the modern age.
The sleek fastback silhouette was crafted by Carrozzeria Touring using their patented Superleggera construction method, where lightweight aluminum panels were mounted over a tubular steel framework.
This Italian styling influence created one of the most beautiful British cars ever produced.
The DB4 featured four-wheel disc brakes, considered innovative technology for production GT cars of the era. It became one of the first production cars capable of accelerating from 0-100-0 mph in under 30 seconds, reaching 100 mph in just 21 seconds.
Power came from a new 3.7-liter aluminum straight-six engine designed by Polish engineer Tadek Marek. With twin SU HD8 carburettors, it produced 240 bhp at 5,500 rpm, delivering a top speed of approximately 140 mph. The four-speed manual transmission was built in-house by David Brown’s gear division.
Production ran from 1958 to 1963, with 1,110 examples built across five series, establishing the foundation for future Aston Martin designs.
