1957 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket Super 88 Holiday Hardtop Coupe
Commemorating a golden anniversary called for dramatic new styling that would redefine American luxury performance. The 1957 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket Super 88 Holiday Hardtop Coupe took its name from Olds’ 1956 Motorama show car, representing a one-year-only designation for this distinctive model.
The redesigned bodies were two inches lower and longer than previous models, creating a rakish profile enhanced by the pillarless “Holiday” roof design.
The Holiday Hardtop featured no B-pillars, allowing for uninterrupted glass flow from front to rear. Its beltline dove dramatically at the door’s trailing edge before rising sharply into a sculpted shoulder below the C-pillar, creating visual excitement that captured the spirit of late-1950s automotive design.
Power came from Oldsmobile’s legendary 371-cubic-inch “Rocket” V8 engine, producing 277 horsepower in standard form. The optional J-2 tri-power setup with three two-barrel carburetors increased output to 300 horsepower, making this coupe a formidable performer that established new standards for mid-priced American luxury cars.
